Most of my followers will have not failed to notice that for some time, I sported a shaved head. The quick story is that my Mum was diagnosed with Stage 4 Lung Cancer and I felt helpless and needed to do something to ‘help’. So, I ‘braved the shave’ and my head was shaved by the wonderful Jill of Watkins Wright, Thirsk. From long hair to a grade one.
If you’d like to watch a video of the original shave, I’ve linked it below
But this post is to show what happened after the head shave. How does a woman’s hair grow back from that length? What are the stages and how long does it take to reach a certain style? If you have lost your hair due to chemotherapy, I hope this helps you to envisage how long it may be until your hair is back.
Here’s the video below: It’s just a short (1min 37 seconds) timelapse of the last two years. I took all the videos from my Instagram Stories. If you don’t follow me on there, you’ll see from this I post daily so I’d love to see you over there.
Sadly, my Mum suddenly died from complications, 3 days after I shaved my head, on January 29th 2018. Whilst putting this video together, I couldn’t help but notice the heavy sadness in my eyes. It’s written all over my face. Gradually, you can see my find fun in life again and here we are, 2 yrs on and whilst I miss my Mum and the pain is just as bad as it ever was, I am able to find the joy in life again. If you are living with grief, I hope this gives you some comfort and hope. You’ll get there. You’ll never forget them and it will always hurt as bad as it did, the moment it happened, but you will find that you can live longer stretches of happiness, in between the moments of sadness.

You did an amazing thing for your Mum, I’m so sorry you lost her so soon afterwards. Cancer is awful and a lot of women feel that hair loss is such a huge part of the suffering. I think this post will help loads x
Oh thank you so much Anne, that is such a kind thing to say x
Oh gosh! I remember you shaving your hair a couple of years ago. It is so interesting to see how your hair has grown back. Sending love and hugs x
Thanks so much! I can’t quite believe how long it has grown in that time!
